Crispell Coat of Arms Research
REPORT BY ROGER CRISPELL ON CRISPELL FAMILY ARMS
On
July 16, 1999, Ann and I visited the Newberry Library in Chicago.
The library is an historical research library with
considerable resources for Genealogy and Heraldry.
We located two of the three books referred to in
Volume I of The Crispell Family in America compiled by Kenneth Hasbrouck in
1976.
We also located the arms in another book, not previously identified,
listed below,**
**Victor & Henri Roland, General Illustrated Armorial,
Vol.II, PI.CL C call # ocr 1179 .R53
This is a book of Black and white illustrations, as indicated in title.

(Volume and Page numbers differ from Hasbrouck reference)
We were told that this is normal because of various binding practices

call # f 0739 .458
All are found under the spelling CRESPEL, de la Touche*,
Bretagne. All are in French and confirm the previously accepted description.
The "Crispell Family - Hasbrouck" reference reads "de la Triche"*.
I cannot explain the difference at this time
"De gules a' une main fermee d'argent, accompagnee des
trois cygnes du meme" - A red shield, with a silver closed hand,
surrounded by three swans.
